This powerful red confounded the critics (including me) who believe Marlborough is too cool to make good Cabernet Sauvignon based wines. Vineyard owner Mike Eaton achieved the impossibleby planting the vines on a steep north facing slope. Eaton wisely planted mostly Pinot Noir with just enough Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec to make 75 cases for his wife, Jo.
