Wine Tasting Notes
Fruit was destemmed into a hopper then carried by overhead crane and gently left in open top fermenters where it had an ambient soak of 5 -7 days before beginning its own indigenous (wild) ferment. Post ferment it was left on skins 11-17 days. After racking to barrel the wine was left on fine lees and barrels topped regularly over an 18 months rest in french oak. The wine was then racked to tank for blending, settled and bottled unfined and unfiltered
Bottled: Setptember 10th 2007
production: 420 cases
Vintage Notes
2006 vintage was a very early spring and as the season wore on it just kept getting warmer. Many vineyards in Marlborough harvested very early to retain their trademark herbaceous characters, in contrast we carefully managed the canopy and yields to allow the vintage to fully express itself in its richness and generosity. With our yields up to half the regional average the grapes still retained their natural vibrancy and freshness while giving a lovely palate weight and richness.
Each vintage we select just the very best barrels that we think best reflect the pinnacle of character from both vineyard and vintage, this becomes the “Hillside Reserve” Pinot Noir
